A technique for changing thinking -- from watching Abraham-Hicks

I was watching the second DVD of the 2005 Abraham-Hicks Alaskan Cruise yesterday when I saw something that made it so easy for me to quantify my thoughts. I offer it to you as way to fine-tune your thinking for even more feelings of well-being and allowing those delicious desires to come into your life.

The questioner had asked about negative manifestations that seem to come from nowhere. Abe was explaining that they don't come from nowhere, they always match our vibration. The problem is that we often are not aware of how much time we are focused on what we don't want. They illustrated how it works by turning back and forth as they repeated various thoughts, physically illustrating which thoughts are downstream and which are upstream.

For those who may be unfamiliar with Abraham, they are saying that there is only a flow of Well-Being and it goes in one direction -- like our earth rivers, it flows downstream in an expansion of well-being and the answer to our desires. When we resist the flow, we are trying to go upstream which is impossible. The way we can tell is by our feelings -- when we go with the flow we feel good, when we resist we have unpleasant feelings -- that's our emotional guidance system.

Abe's illustration worked like this: You are standing up. Upstream is when you face in front of you -- your desires are met and you feel good. Turn around and face behind you. That's downstream -- lack, desires not met, looking at "what is" in the physical world.

A short illustration using money as an example:

Facing forward, downstream with the flow: I want more money.

Then turn around, upstream: But I have no money. My bills are due!

Start to turn forward: But I want more money.

Turn facing downstream in back of you: But I don't know what I'll do if I don't get the money. What if I can't pay my bills?

You can physically feel what your thoughts are creating using this technique.

We can become used to an underlying grumpy feeling, thoughts that we kind of mumble to ourselves in the back of our mind while we are doing something else, or even habitual thoughts that happen at certain times like getting bills in the mail.

It is consciousness raising to catch those thoughts and turn around facing the direction you do not want to go. It's a real eye-opener to actually see what that thought is doing, going in the opposite direction of where you want to go.

If you find yourself facing away from your desires just know that every single moment is newly created. Every moment is an opportunity to make a choice. Right then when you are facing backward, know there is the delicious opportunity to make a new choice. Turn around, face forward, and affirm what it is that you want knowing that it is yours -- because it is.

It doesn't matter what thing you've done, it only matters what thing you do -- because you can't resist in the past tense, you can only resist in the powerful Now. You might have started a pattern before and you might be continuing a pattern, but it's the doing now not the 'have done' that matters.

Get so fixated on what you want, that you drown out any vibration or reverberation that has anything to do with what you do not want. When you ask it is given, every single time, no exceptions. You are beloved, blessed beings who deserve good things....

Great blog. I found your site through the Abraham-Hicks blog/archive site. I am back on my spiritual path after a 12-year diversion in a corporate job and I find the Abraham-Hicks materials to be very helpful as I work to consciously use the Law of Attraction to improve my life and help others do the same.

hi, Suzanne, have you read the latest book by Abraham yet? Can you give us a review of The Astonishing Power of Emotions?

Welcome, Arete,

I haven't read The Astonishing Power of Emotions. When I found Abraham I read every book I could, listened to tapes, watched videos, and attended a workshop. It was just what I was looking for and I immersed myself in the information.

Now I watch DVDs or listen to CDs because it feels so good to me to see and hear them speak.

There are many YouTube videos of Abraham speaking and there is one where Abraham talks about The Astonishing Power of Emotions at

I have so much appreciation for Abraham's words whether spoken or written that I would see great value in their book. Their vibration of Love is in everything they do.

With appreciation of your journey, Arete

Interesting post about how things don't come out of nowhere. I'll look for the video. Connee Chandler sometimes posts notes at her website after those cruises, but it looks like she doesn't have any notes for the 2005 cruise. So maybe I'll go straight to the source. :)

Thanks for the post.

Hey True Nine! Good to see you.

Even when I had just the tinest negative feelings -- by turning around to face upstream or even just turning my head to look back over my shoulder it really made me aware of my thinking. Sometimes it's like there's a "groove" and I get in it and the thoughts can take on a bit of a life of its own before I realize it. It's proving to be a great way to clean up my thinking and is coupled with an increasing awareness that I really do want to feel good -- like cleaning off the barnacles and getting a smoother ride in the flow. The better I feel the better I want to feel!

It wasn't really new information, I think it was the visual that was effective for me. As far as things coming out of nowhere -- it fits in with their information that everything is about our vibration. And also that we get used to negative thoughts and feelings and don't notice them or think they are important.

Thanks for stopping by! Wishing you joy in your journey,

~Suzanne
